Semi live game blogging from the game

At this point, I don't even need a goal, just some puck possession
would be nice!!!

  1. No, no. Things are going just fine the way they are... :D

  2. What a delightful game! (Although good thing Doyle was in there at the end -- Gagne would never have missed that shot right at the end if Marty had been in net.)

  3. Oh that's right, I forgot that Gagne owns Marty. Damn you Doyle!

What an awful awful game. The only good part was seeing Briere's goofy grin when he scored...he looked like a little kid who just had his first successful potty training session!

I was at the game posting from my phone or I would have responded earlier..

Whoa! Aren't YOU fancy! Eager To Go Psycho has such dazzling technology, and IPB is still blogging from our tin-cans-tied-together-by-twine phones. :P

And actually, delightful win aside, that game was a bit of a snoozer. That second period was some full-on snore-a-thon Devils hockey, wasn't it? (Although I barely recognized my team for the way they forechecked in the first. It's been, like, three years since they last forechecked.)

  5. If, by "snoozer" you mean absolutely frustrating and made you want to tear your hair out because your team didn't touch the puck for more than 20 consecutive seconds, and when they did touch it they promptly passed it to the opposing team, then yes, it was a snoozer.

But yeah, it was pretty snoozy. I was tempted to leave early to beat traffic (a practice reserved for other sporting events, not my beloved hockey).

  6. Well, with old Stonewall Doyle in net, you clearly should have left early! No way he was going to give up that lead. (Although Jordy Parise could have stopped that Gagne shot with just his hottness alone!!! He could have! I just know it!)

  7. The offense will show up in time. It is the defense that always has me worried. It is frustrating when we can't get the puck out of our zone, because sooner or later somone makes a mistake and the puck goes in.

Marty played well from what I heard.

Carter has to stop reading his own press clippings, and learn how to put the puck in the net.

You will be glad you have those seats.

Did Nate play as well as it sounded?

Did Cote win his fight with Rupp? It sounded like a clear victory.

    Any other insights for me?

  8. I was so waiting for Jordy to come in, just so I could watch him "play" goalie!

I was glad to see Doyle though, because I could chant (in my head) "doyyyyy-llle, doyyyy-llle, doyyyy-lllle". Doyle had a rough game against the Phantoms last year, and the folks behind me chanted that the whole game, and for the rest of the season any other time a goalie gave up a lot of goals (even if his name wasn't doyle!!!!!)

  9. Cote smoked Rupp. Rupp is NOT having a good preseason. :D

I totally think "Doyle" is a pretty safe name for any lousy goaltender. I don't think Marty's too worried about losing his job to him.

  10. ETH...Biron did play well. I will watch the replay later tonight (DORK!!!) but from what I saw, both goals came from the same angle/side. My guess is either he needs work on that side or maybe he was just off on that side..I dunno.

Guenin did have a decent game, but the rest of the D was a mess. Hatcher needs serious work and he dragged down whoever was out there with him.

Kapanen looked good. Knuble looked good, and it was great when he delivered some hits on Clarkson after Clarkson hit Gagne (just like last week's game).

As far as Cote, he landed the first two or three punches, and took Rupp down, but when they showed the replay, it looked like Rupp got in a good number of decent hits as well. At this point, I would have to call it a draw, but I will head over to hockeyfights.com to see what the experts say...

  11. Thanks for the update.

I have came to same conclusion as you on Hatcher. Time for him and his CAP hit to move on for mid round pick.

I don't know if you saw the Rangers game Saturday, but I watched it on MSG, and I was totally impressed by the defense.

Coburn, Jones, Guenin, Smith, Kukkonen, & Timonen played a very solid game.

  12. I didn't see the Ranger game, but it didn't seem like the same defense showed up tonight...
