Always looking for an excuse to post a picture of Kovy...

So I guess there is a game tonight or something. Hope I wake up from my nap in time to watch it!

Leighton=stunned

No worries Leights, Cam is still out for a while. Like they're gonna start Peters? Pshht.

Poor Leighton, he had it all wrapped up. Then John Stevens called the Flyers pansies during the second intermission and they decided to make things interesting.

I actually liked the second period, because all the bullshit calls got the crowed riled up. It made the third period that much sweeter. The organist even played the chicken song riff so we could chant "hey ref you suck!" He did it at least twice, and possibly three times. He hasn't done that since last year's favorite game. This game reminded me a lot of that game.

I loved watching player interviews today, and seeing how they were still revved up from last night's game. Lupes said he had trouble falling asleep!

Next up, the Pens at home. Hope it's a good one!

How can you not stalk this guy?

I'm really not stalking him. It's just a joke! Honest. Here is Leighton with his dad during the Hurricanes' Dads weekend. Awwwwww. How cute!

I don't really want to say much about the Flyers right now....

The Pronger strikes again!!

This time it was Baby Pronger! His presence on a hockey card sent the Flyers into OT and an eventual loss!!! That's right, Soph and Jess brought me more gifts at the last Flyers game, including a Pronger card in which he isn't even a douchebag yet, and a Sexy Kovy card which I may or may not have kissed. (But I didn't lick it!!!)

As sad as the game was, and as happy as the gifts were, nothing compared to this:

(It's Michael Leighton, for those of you who aren't stalking him...)

And for those of you who are into Eric Staal, there is this:

That's weird. Flyers don't suck?

This is like the only picture I've taken this season. Lugging camera gear to a game SUCKS!

I was surprised earlier today when I checked the standings...they've gone 6-3-1 in their last 10. So why do I feel like I want to jump off a bridge after every game?

1. They pretty much play like crap. They haven't played 3 full periods of hockey in any of the games I have seen (keeping in mind that I don't watch Devils games...).

2. Perhaps my expectations were too high coming off last year's post season?

3. I just can't handle the ups and downs of following a professional sports team.

I dunno, but even when they have a decent lead, it feels like they are behind...

Also, regarding Kovy's hit on Gagne: Um, yeah, not cool Kovalev, not cool. I know you want to hurdle over The Pronger to be number one on my list, but that's really not the way to do it. I do still love you though. Just work on the hair. And score some PP goals. You're killing my fantasy teams. (except for one, and we all know which one that is...)

Next up: Sexy Kovy and the Habs

Is it wrong to love him?

The Flyers get their passports in order and head up to Montreal Saturday. Poor Habs got crushed last night by the Broons...and Boston had freaking Fernandez in net. Ouch! They'll be looking to get back to their winning ways against the lowly Flyers.

Kovy better start growing his hair back again, because so far this year, his stats are not all that. He's killing my fantasy team! Cmon...Alexei Ponikarovsky has as many points as Kovy! Sheesh. Get it together you sexy bitch!

For a world class preview of the game, check out Four Habs Fans. Always funny, always disturbing. There's also The Notwithstanding Clause, which FHF highly recommends.

I'm starting to enjoy the Flyers being in the basement...no expectations, I don't have to hurry to watch the games, I don't have to wonder what the outcome will be. It's very liberating!

Also, it's time to start the John Stevens Firing watch. How many days til he's gone? Is he gone by Thanksgiving or does he make it to Christmas?

Kukkonen on waivers??

But didn't he just play tonight? Interesting news for those of you on the Shanahan watch...

This was a good excuse for me to post an old picture of Gator and Kooky...

What do I have in common with Jean-Claude Van Damme?

We both fucking hate Iceburgh. Yeah, that's right, I took a picture of my tv...

Monday, November 10, 2008

another fun fact...

Michael Leighton has more wins than Marty Biron.

Sheesh!

Sunday, November 9, 2008

Not good, not good

The Atlanta Thrashers have more wins than we do.

Every team in the Western Conference, including the Kings, has more wins than we do.

The St Louis Blues have the same amount of points as us!

This is starting to feel a lot like the season that shall not be named....

The number 25

Good news! Matt Carle has been assigned the number 25, so maybe he won't suck like those who have worn the number 26. Seriously, if they gave him 26, I was gonna jump.

Dear Flyers, please stop sucking or I am switching teams. There are other teams to choose from, you know! Just to show you how serious I am about switching, check this out:

Don't make me keep posting Pronger pics until you stop sucking!

I love Dwayne Roloson!

Okay, I don't love him like that. But I love watching him play. His goaltending style is very um...interactive, and gave me something to take my mind of the suckfest that was today's game.

Really, the highlight of the game was meeting Soph and Jess. They cleverly lured me out during the second intermission with the promise of a hockey card they brought for me. Naturally, I couldn't resist!

They were easy to find, because they are so darn cute!! Cute as buttons! So cute that I even had to give them each a hug, and I'm not really the hugging type!! We chatted for a bit, discussing the merits of fan based feedback in the dressing room during intermission. We wondered if fans thought that the Flyers hearing things like "Shoot the fucking puck" and "you suck" would be valuable to the team's performance going forward. We doubted that it would help, although we're sure it won't stop anyone.

Anyhow, here is the super awesome card they brought me, showcasing my two favorite players: The Pronger and Gator. On the same card!!!!

Thanks ladies, for brightening an otherwise dull gameday!

Also Soph, sorry for kicking your team's ass this week in our fantasty league!! But really, you may want to try and pick up another starting goalie! Leighton doesn't get many starts!! Drop Gator, because he doesn't get you any points, and pick up Joey MacDonald or Alex Auld. Since DiPietro is gonna be out for a bit, MacDonald will be getting a lot of starts.

Flyers/Devils preview and recap

Instead of actually watching the game tonight, I am going to bang my head against a wall for 2 hours, and then write down a score that includes the number zero.

I think that pretty much sums it up, eh?

Nothing witty to say today

Not that I really having anything witty to say anyhow, but today is particularly bad.

Last night, the Tampa Bay Lightning won their first game, leaving the Flyers as the only winless team in the NHL. We have a sad two points as we head into tonight's game with the Sharks, who only have one loss. Our record against the Sharks does not bode well for us either.

Oh well, no big deal, since the Phillies play game one of the World Series tonight, and it's like this game doesn't exist for most Philly Sports Fans anyhow.

I know I should be more worried about this terrible start, but I'm really not. It's still very early in the season and I am still hopeful that the team will get their shit together. The way I figure it, I've already been through "our worst season ever" and if I can make it through that, then I can make it through this.

Still, a win tonight would be nice. But that would mean the Phillies have to lose, so I guess we'll have to take one for the team...

The Law of Philly Sports

Over the past few years, I've noticed that (in general) only one Philly sports team can win at a time. So, if the Phillies and Flyers are playing on the same day, one team will win, and one team will lose.

This does not bode well for Flyers fans as the Phillies head into the World Series. It seems that the Law of Philly Sports has created some sort of crazy vortex where the Flyers will not be able to win until the World Series is over.

The last possible game for the Series is October 30th. That means our potential first win could come on November 2nd versus the Oilers.

It's gonna be a long month.

On a serious note: will John Stevens be able to survive this losing streak? I know he has been with the organization for awhile and had a great year last year, but I worry. The cool thing to do in the NHL is to fire your coach when you lose 6 games in a row at the beginning of the season. Can he make it? Who will make it longer, Barry Melrose or John Stevens?

two minutes for forgetting about the game...

Holy jeez. Work this last week has been trying to kill me, so much so that I forgot there was a game tonight.

Okay, let's just take a second and think about that. I FORGOT THAT THERE WAS A GAME VERSUS OUR ARCH NEMESIS!

I worked yesterday and went to the game. I worked today and have to go to work later tonight and then go back again in the morning. I planned on catching some zzzzzzzs from 6-10, when I suddenly realized there was a game at 7:30. I collapsed to my knees in despair, because I really needed that nap!

I can't believe it. Bad Kristin, bad!

Flyers fans boo Palin...

So the audio on this is a little different than the one you'll hear on the broadcast. This is from my seat in 223. The booing was immediate and loud, but eventually gets drowned out by the EXTRA LOUD MUSIC they played to drown out the booing.

A few random grumblings...

*NHL.com, your new interface sucks. It looks pretty, but damn if I can figure out where the hell to find stuff.

*Brian Engblom cut his hair. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet. It looks better, yet weirder somehow. Thanks to Puck Daddy for the pic. I was totally gonna screen cap it myself, but damn if I'm too lazy.

*How many fantasy hockey teams is too many? Why do all my fantasy hockey teams have crap goalies?

*Why haven't I seen any of these "Is this the year?" commercials that everyone is yapping about?

*Why does Ed Snider look more and more like George Hamilton in "Love at First Bite"? Anyone who has seen the commemorative ticket from the Phantoms/Flyers game knows what I'm talking about.

*I hope that Saturday's game will not be overshadowed by political bullshit.

*Why don't I know any of the players numbers for this season? I got some studying to do!

*If Pat Maroon is gonna be with the Phantoms all year, I may have to make a few trips over to the Spectrum. Sign me up now for the jersey auctions.

I guess that's all for now. See you Saturday!

Saturday, October 4, 2008

Dear Steve,

Please don't go to any regular season Caps/Flyers games.

Sincerely,

Kristin

Flyers are starting to scare me...

Sorry guys, the last week has been pretty brutal between work, games, and fantasy drafts. Plus, I've been stuffing my face with Oreo Double Stuffs and haven't wanted to get chocolate crumbs on the keyboard.

You may recall that I referred to last Tuesday's game as reminiscent of Mites On Ice. Well, I've been to two games since then, and the Flyers have been much improved in those last two outings.

Saturday's game at the Spectrum was interesting. The guys did a tremendous job of getting the puck out of their own end. Once they got it into the offensive zone though, they had some trouble. It was sorta like they had only worked on their defensive system all week, but hadn't thought much about scoring. But still, seeing them get the puck out was very comforting.

This week, we had a game at the Wachovia Center (thank god, the Spectrum just isn't built to handle those crowds!!!) against the Capitals. The Caps looked amazing...they came out with a ton of speed and put a lot of pressure on the Flyers. They looked pretty dominant for most of the first period. Eventually though, the Flyers got into a groove and started working their system.

I got a little scared during the Caps game, because I realized that this Flyers team has the potential to be good. Like scary good. Richards is unfreakingbelievable out there, and the rest of the team is definitely following his lead. You know I'm not on the Richards bandwagon, but he really does it all out there.

The reason I was scared when I realized how good this team could be is because I am such a negative fan. I don't want to think that we can be good. I don't like to think that winning is possible. It is so much easier to be that annoying fan who only has negative things to say about the team. When people say, "Hey, great win last night!!!" I say, "Yeah, but it was against the Islanders..."

My goal this year is to enjoy the ride. It's a long season with a lot of ups and downs, and I want to look back and say I had a good time.

We'll see how long this positive attitude lasts. I give it until the first Devils game!

Poor Kevin Weekes

He's never gonna see any action after last night's game. I actually felt kinda bad for him. It's not like the Flyers were shellacking him, but you could see his chances to play in the regular season fade away after that second goal.

Last night was the first night in my new seats. They're okay. We discovered that we have a yeller in front of us. The kind who waits until it's quiet right before the anthem and then yells "DEVILS SUCK!" at the top of his lungs. If you heard that last night, just know that guy sits directly.in.front.of.me. Happy happy joy joy. Other words of wisdom from his yelly-ness: "HOLIK SUCKS!" and "SOMEBODY KILL HOLIK." It's gonna be a long season folks.

The game itself was typical preseason fare: Rod compared it to Mites on Ice, and I couldn't argue.

best line of the night: After I complained about a Flyer passing to a Devil, Rod said "at least it was tape to tape...."

No pictures, since I didn't feel like lugging my gear to a preseason game. Plus, we skipped warmups. I'll have pictures from Saturday's Spectrum game, which I found out last night is at 1 pm. Oops!

Flyers Training Camp Pictures

No silly, I didn't take pictures, I'm too lazy! Luckily for you, Nicole took the week off so she can document it for you!

Check out her pictures here. She also took pictures of the Meet the Flyers taping, you can see those here. Try to ignore the comments I made on her pictures. I may have been overcome by the sight of scruffy defensemen.

enjoy!

C is for Cookie, that's good enough for me...

I'm really trying to get back in the swing of things guys, I really am. But honestly, I've been enjoying this vacation from hockey and blogging and I have been dragging my feet. Heck, if the Pensblog has burnt out a bit and they are the masters, what chance do I have?

I got my season ticket booklet last week, which was enough to energize me for a day, but then reality set and I realized I have to go to 42 games this year. That's a lot of games yo! In 2006-2007 I did something like 56 games between the Phantoms and Flyers and roadtrips, and let me tell you, it nearly killed me! Being at the games is not so bad, but the whole process is a pain. For a 7pm start, I have to leave my house around 4 or 4:30 to avoid the bulk of the traffic. I get to the arena around 5:30 or 6:00 and go to my seats on the ice for warmups. Then the game and the traffic-y drive home. All in all, it's about a 7 hour deal. I know, poor Kristin, I feel so bad for you because you have to go to all the Flyers games. WAH!

What else is going on in Flyers land? Bad news for Steve Eminger: he has been given the number 26, so he may as well just pack it in now. Nitty is out and we get JS Aubin, the goalie who can't compete with Ryan Miller in a yo mama contest. Our slogan this year is Hungry For More, inviting more fat Philadelphian jokes than we already get.

Richie gets the C, which is good for him but for surprising for me. I truly thought that he would turn it down, because he is so "team team team" all the time. I hope it doesn't mess with his head as the letter C sometimes does with folks. Poor Cookie Monster, he gets crazy over the letter C...

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

And so it begins...

Nitty out for the start of the season.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

Hellz yeah!

Return of the Mack

No show uses music quite as well as Entourage. I haven't been able to get this song out of my head since Sunday night. Luckily, there is a sweet video! If watching this doesn't put a little pimp in your step, I don't know what will.

how rude!!!

So, I got dissed by my former fantasy league, because I am no longer on the email list for a practically defunct blog. Hmph. Anyone out there wanna get one going? I have one set up over at Yahoo if anyone wants to join, or if you have something set up already let me know. It's not like I am married to the idea of being the commissioner, and I am flexible on rosters and scoring. If you wanna try the one I have set up, the ID is 10835 and the password is sid. Heh.

Choosing my favorite Flyer for 08-09

Sure, the Flyers have an important decision to make regarding this year's captain, but what about me? Now that Gator is gone, who will be my favorite Flyer? Ultimately, the decision will be a gut reaction, based on performance on the ice during camp or the first few games, but let's take a look at some of the likely candidates.

To begin the process, we can eliminate an entire category of player: all the forwards. I'm just not a forward kind of gal. My previous favorite players have included Martin Grenier, Michael Leighton, Lars Jonsson, and Jason Smith. So we have to go with a goalie or a d-man. I like Marty and Nitty, but favorites they are not.

Okay, so that leaves the d-men. Let's take a closer look:

Kimmo Timonen: super talented and quite cute, but doesn't meet my minimum height requirements.

Ryan Parent: meets height requirements and is able to grow a Gator beard, but he might be too cute. All the other girls will have him on their list.

Hatcher: um, no.

Randy Jones: too pretty.

Kukkonen: too blond.

Ossi Vaananen: Haven't seen him in action yet, but since he is Finnish and I don't have a thing for Finns, he is probably out.

Okay, so that just leaves Eminger and Coburn. Both are tall, though Coburn is taller, so that gives him a slight advantage in my book.

Coburn has the potential for heroics on the ice, plus we know he is tough since he took that puck to the eye....very Gator like of him. He cleans up great, which you would know if you turn to page 40 of the 07/08 Flyers Pictorial Yearbook.

.................huh? what? oh sorry, I couldn't stop looking at his picture.

Plus, Nicole took some pics of him last week at the Cote Carnival that got me to thinking he might be the one...

I can't find any decent pictures of Eminger, and I haven't seen him play that much, so for now I don't have much info to go o.

So Eminger, the battle is yours to win.

Wow, a second post in August!

Well, it's almost time for my annual Crickets and Mums post, but until then, we'll just have to settle for some Metal Mania and Phelps Phever. (See, I'm in Philly, so I can spell fever with a "ph" if I want to.)

I've been working a lot lately, and taking pictures when I have free time, and that has pretty much left me with little or no energy to post over here. I've been posting on my other blog, but that is not ready for primetime yet, so you'll just have to wait.

I don't usually care for the Olympics, and before last week, Michael Phelps was a name I heard other girls squee about quite a bit, but I had no idea what all the fuss was about. Well, here it is 7 days later and I am fully on board with fish boy. Pretty much rushed home from work one night so I could watch him get number 6. Now that his run is over, what am I going to watch? Track and field? I think probably not.

Okay, my upstairs Tivo is acting a fool, and won't switch over to Metal Mania for me, so I guess I will have to go downstairs and catch a few videos....

I hate August!

Random Flyers updates

Aww, it looks so nice from the outside!!!

Damn. The offseason sucks so much. My prediction for August is 100% more suckiness than July, even though I am not sure that is even possible.

Anyhoo, the Flyers are trying to liven things up a little for me, by announcing the preseason schedule. Sure, it was already announced, but now you know where they are going to play. And their big exciting day is September 27th, when they play a game at the Spectrum.

Um, okay. I get that that's where we came from and all, but have you been to the Spectrum in the last few years? Cuz I spent a season watching the Phantoms there, and I don't relish the idea of going back there anytime soon. It's slippery, sticky, and moist and there is no hot water in the ladies room. I mean sure, it's laden with Flyers history, but sheesh. I've been spoiled by the Wachovia Center (and that is not saying much)!

Oh well, you know I'll be there, especially since it is against the Hurricanes (Michael Leighton alert)!

Also, for all you hockey hotties out there, a reminder that auditions for the Delta Dental Ice Team are August 24th. Probably a great way to get to see the games for free and skate real close to the goalie and annoy him. And please, no comments about the ice team and how sexist it is. The girls really don't bother me, but girls that complain about them really do! :)

Oh, and while I'm busy offending y'all, I wanted to point you in the direction of another blog that might offend you too. You may already know Wrap Around Curl from the Hottie Hockey Dreamy Team series that's been going on all summer with I Mean, We Got Guys. (Wow, that was a poorly constructed sentence. Oh well.)

Anyhow, Wrap Around Curl is, um, irreverent. Yeah, that's the word. She has a no holds barred, if-you-don't-like-it-fuck-you attitude that I am finding to be quite refreshing. So check it out and feel free to be offended. She's also looking for a new NHL team to root for, so maybe you can help her with that.

That's all for now. Peace out suckas! And cmon Soph, Jess, and Kmart...POST SOMETHING FOR ME TO READ!!!!

Metal mania and Flyers rookie camp wrap up...

Well tonight's Metal Mania started off strong, with Slaughter's "Fly to the Angels." Again, not really metal, but damn what a great cheesy song and cheesy video. I love it. It is sooooooo 1990! I remember watching 1-800-Dial MTV every day for a month to see the video! That Mark Slaughter was soooooooo dreamy!

Anyhow, after Slaughter tonight came AC/DC, Skid Row, Tesla and Dokken. Overall, a very good night. Oooh! Oooh! Now they are playing the Scorpions! Wooooohooo! A good night indeed!

As for rookie camp, I made it yesterday but still didn't take any pictures. Lucky for you, Erica took pictures yesterday and Nicole took pictures today. So be sure to check them out. I'll also link to Erica's pictures of the Trial on the Isle. Gents be warned: there is a bit of puckbunny-ishness going on over there. Mostly by me. Which hardly ever happens. But these were hockey players without their shirts on, so, ya know, it couldn't be helped.

Have a good Sunday y'all!

Flyers rookie camp at last!

Oh my goodness, I finally made it to camp! I woke up at 9:30 and hemmed and hawed for about an hour before I decided to go. I got there at 11:25, and entered the building as a large group of people flooded out. I was just in time to see the last rookie leave the ice! Grrr! That's even worse than showing up and finding out it was canceled entirely!

I decided to stick around for a few minutes to see if they would go do some more work on the other rink, and sure enough, they did. Looks like they were working on agility. They started off just skating back and forth, and then the coach had them work on some increasingly difficult moves.

They had to skate to the blue line, drop to their knees, get up, then jump up, then continue skating. Then they had to do it backwards! It was a pretty funny sight to see, especially since some of the guys are less than agile (I'm looking at you, poor Patrick Maroon...)!

Anyhow, the above video is of the last drill they had to do before moving on to more boring stuff. I love that even the goalies have to do these....they look so silly jumping and twirling with those pads on!

As far as the players go...I'm still sticking with my opinion from last year about Patrick Maroon. This kid is like a puppy who hasn't yet grown into his legs...he is very awkward during the agility drills. However, when he touches the puck, he loses all that awkwardness and you can just see this phenomenal talent he has.

It was also fun to watch Giroux...he looks like such a pro out there doing the drills, like, "yeah, I've done these a million times before." He makes it look effortless.

Check this out for more opinions (not mine) on some of the guys...

No pictures, since I always forget how bad the lighting in there is...

Flyers rookie camp updates

Nah, I'm still too lazy to go, plus, they have the trial on the isle today and no way am I standing out in the sun for 8 hours. Too much for my pale Irish skin to handle! But here are some interesting clips and photos from this week thus far:

Erica's pictures from Sunday

Nicole's pictures from Sunday

An interesting article about JVR

JVR is blogging from camp. Awwww! Mostly, he just sounds tired!

I swear I am going to camp tomorrow, which means they will probably cancel tomorrow's practice!

Crybaby Crosby and blog pimping

Yeah, I dropped to second place again on google search for Crybaby Crosby, so it was time to put Crybaby Crosby all over the place. Heh.

I also wanted to take a second to direct your attention to a few Flyers' blogs.

First up is The Frozen Fan. The amazing thing about this blog is that he pretty much posts every day. He has slowed down a bit for the summer (who hasn't?) but his posts are always full of insight and analysis. He's all serious and stuff...I guess we need more of that in the Flyers blogosphere.

Next up is The Flying P. This is a newish blog, but anyone crazy enough to start a hockey blog in the depths of the offseason deserves some respect. Right?

So anyhow, check em out, leave some comments and show em some love!

I was too lazy to get up at the asscrack of dawn to make the trek to the Skatezone, but I swear I will go later this week. There is also a STH event on Thursday night at the Wachovia Center, so maybe I will get you some pictures/stories then.

That's all for now! Peace out, suckas!

metal mania and rookie camp grumpiness!

Dag! I forgot to watch Metal Mania last night! The heat must have finally gotten to my brain! Anyone out there have a recap for me? Anyhow, I'm in the mood for a little Poison, even though I have to stress that they are not *really* metal. I love this video because of CC's antics, and Bret telling him, "CC, pick up that guitar and talk to me!"

I went to rookie camp this morning, but a lack of caffeine and a general grumpiness on my part resulted in no pictures for you! I will be there during the week, when it is less crowded, so I should be able to get some shots then. I'll post a link later to Nicole's pics, since she was there with Erica shooting up a storm.

Thursday, July 17, 2008

Oh happy day!

the picture doesn't really do it justice....

Oh man, what a great day! They release the schedule for next season! They post the schedule and participants for rookie camp! And, I finally get my custom Flyers messenger bag from reload bags. Plus, I am home again!!!!!

Doesn't get much better than that!

oooh...also when I got home and was going through my mail, I got my season ticket holder info for next year! WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!

The return of Metal Mania and thank god for the NHL network!

shouldn't this toad be eating all the bugs?

Well, here I am, trapped in CT. My damn cell phone doesn't even get reception at my parent's house! They are in the boonies, man. Right now, my laptop screen is crawling with little bugs, because this is the only light on in the house, and there are a lot of bugs in this neck of the (literal) woods!

I had a lovely 5 hour drive here, and luckily there was no traffic at the George Washington Bridge or it would have been an 8 hour drive. Okay, these bugs on my computer screen are really getting annoying!

Anyhow, the good part is, Metal Mania was back on last night! The bad part is, I pretty much fell asleep to a replay of Game 4 of Boston vs. Montreal from this year's playoffs. (My parents get the NHL Network, much to their surprise and dismay!) The only metal video I really saw was "Welcome to the Jungle" which really, was a bit cliche for me. Now that we know what a tool Axl Rose is, it is hard to watch him at his coolest and not think about what an ass he is today.

Anyhoo, I'm really too distracted by the bugs to be coherent at all, so until I sneak on here again, sayonara!

Intervention and vacation

Oh my god. I am totally addicted (pun intended) to Intervention on A&E. I have an unhealthy obsession with shows and movies about drug addiction, and Intervention has really stepped it up this season. I caught a great episode on demand last night, featuring Dawn and Fabian. Dawn is waaaaaayyy addicted to meth (those are always the best ones), and her two sons are pretty much sick of it. She is so paranoid that she thinks the show's producers are FBI agents getting ready to arrest her.

Anyhoo, they finally confront her with an intervention. The sons pour their hearts out to her. The interventionist asks her if she is willing to go to rehab. She sits there on the couch thinking about it, face looking very contemplative. Then, she gives her answer:

"Hellllllll Noooo!"

AHAHAHAHAHA. Ooof. It's moments like that that make the show worth watching. That, and watching these people score heroin and shoot it up in the bathroom of the local Taco Bell.

(Apologies to any of y'all out there living with addiction. I just love this show and wanted to share it.)

Man, I can't wait for hockey to come back. TV sucks!

Starting tomorrow, I will be away for a few days, and I'm not sure how reliable my internet connection will be. I'm pretty sure my only posts will be from my iPhone or from the nearest Starbucks. Hopefully there will be some Metal Mania news to report on this weekend, or I will just have to make shit up!

Have a good one y'all!

It started off like an ordinary day...

And then Gator became a Senator. No, not a policy making senator, but an Ottawa Senator. We were all sort of prepared for this day, and all I can say is:

Thank goodness he is not a Devil!!!

No Spleen, No Metal Mania

Yeah, it's a painting of a spleen!

What a bummer of a weekend. I had to work 5 days straight (and five more this week, but then I am on vacay!!!) VH1 classic decided they hate me, and didn't show any metal mania. Soph lost her spleen. I didn't post anything for the last 5 days. Grrrr. And I have to be at work in about 45 minutes. So this is just a quick post to say hey.

Good news:

*development camp for the babies is rumored to be July 19th -25th. So we at least have that to look forward to. Pictures of the Reamer and Patrick Maroon will be posted. Lots of them. Plus, I got a new little video camera, so I can take movies of them too.

* Soph got her custom made chucks. Hopefully she will post the picture soon so y'all can see how the grenadine is.

* I got some sweet hockey cards in the mail today, including a Michael Leighton auto and a Ty Conklin auto. Nice!!! Cooooonnnnnnnnnkkkkkk-lllliiiiiiiiiinnnnnnn, Cooooonnnnnnnnnkkkkkk-lllliiiiiiiiiinnnnnnn, Cooooonnnnnnnnnkkkkkk-lllliiiiiiiiiinnnnnnn

That's all, more later when I get my brain back!

Settle down, Tampa Bay! Save some free agents for the rest of us!

Sheesh...the Lightning are out of control! First they get Roberts and Malone, now it looks like they have Radim Vrbata too. Who do you think you are...Homer in 2007?

I'm off today and will try to post stuff as it happens, although I expect that a real news site will give you timelier information!

update 2:25 pm
Hmm. We traded Gauthier away. I guess I should have seen that one coming. Why is Homer stockpiling picks and prospects? What does he have up his sleeve?

update 7:21 pm
Well so far today has been pretty boring. I had to take a nap while waiting to see where Soupy would end up. So far, the highlight of my day is watching Pierre McGuire go nuts on TSN over the goaltending situation in Chicago.

Metal mania and card crazy!

ha! he looks like a little baby!

Yeah, so Metal Mania was pretty lame last night. Or maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it, since I spent all day with my mom and sister and was totally exhausted. We spent the day trekking around outside (a place I try not to go). I even got a little sunburnt! My poor skin!

Anyhow, I was so tired that I just couldn't get into the metal. Also, apparently VH1 Classic heard me complaining about how lame last week was, and they put the Scorpions on at 12:30! Sheesh! I'm barely home yet at that point. This week's Scorp video was "Still Loving You," which I thought we had covered before but we haven't. It is a boring video, but such a great song. Wow.

Also, even though I was tired, I was still able to scour ebay for hockey cards. I would just like to thank Jess for my current obsession. (Thanks in a sarcastic way, that is!) Now I spend every waking moment looking for cards online!

Last week, I procured two Braydon Coburn rookie cards. Pretty cool, right? Even cooler, when the seller sent my cards, he sent a whole bunch of other current Flyers cards! Wooooooohooooo! I got Lupul, Carter, Richie, Timonen, Upshall, and Marty. Woo! There may have also been a Robert Esche card in there, but we'll be burning that one.

Have a great Sunday!

Carter!!!

The Gator days of summer...

Well, here we are, headed into the last weekend before free agency. There have been rumors of Smith not being a Flyer this year since back at the trade deadline. But really, who would want Gator for their team? I mean sure, he's all brooding single dad and whatnot, but he plays like crap when he has two bum shoulders. If I were a GM and I had seen him play in the playoffs, I would give a hearty "no thanks" if given the chance to sign him.

Anyhow, he will probably be a Devil next year, and then I will have to hate him. Right? There's no way I could possibly love a bedeviled Gator. Is there?

I'll be posting Gator pictures and videos over the next few days to determine whether or not we can love a Devil Gator.

Below, we have our first introduction to Gator...his press conference/jersey putting on day. At the time, I was underwhelmed. Here is what I had to say at the time:

Let me digress here for one second. I watched the Hartnell, Smith and Briere press conferences. Hartnell was very articulate. Smith was very boring. Briere was very skittish. Of the three, if I were a GM, I would only want Hartnell talking to the press.

Oh man, I called Gator boring. Wow. I will have to look back and see where it was that he finally stole my hockey heart. Anyhow, enjoy the video. You get to see Gator's little smile and hear him say "obviously" a lot. (you can fast forward to the 3:40 mark to see both...)

I'm kind of excited about Eminger!

Eminger does not look excited at all though...probably the Caps uniform!

Ya know, it's strange, but I hardly ever read news about the Flyers. I usually just read blogs. But I've been reading news the past few days, hence the more newsy focus over here. Anyhow, all that aside, I gotta say I am pretty excited about Eminger after reading what he had to say to the press.

You can read the full interview/articles here and here. They are good, I promise.

Basically, it sounds like the Caps were deep on d-men, and just kinda didn't need him. He was a healthy scratch most of the year and never really got to develop. He also didn't get much feedback on what he needed to improve.

From Chuck Gormley at the Courier Post:

Eminger said he simply wants to establish his identity as an NHL defenseman. In Washington, Eminger said he was asked to be a defensive defenseman under Cassidy, an offensive defenseman under Glen Hanlon, and he didn't play much at all under Bruce Boudreau, who replaced Hanlon early last season as Capitals coach and used Eminger in just 20 regular season games.

"I'm not a one dimensional offensive guy," Eminger said. "There were a lot of different signals, and that led to not having my own identity. I think a player should be his own player.

"The frustrating thing is I really didn't know what the reason was (for being benched). I was pretty much a depth player and at 23 or 24 years old, I didn't think I was a depth player. I knew I wasn't a depth player."

Okay, so it sounds like we just need to define his role and play him in 82 games. I think we can do that. He sounds like he has a good attitude, and that can go a long way:

“I was really honored to be traded for a first-round pick,'' the 6-2, 217-pound Eminger said. “Now everything is up to me. I have to prove myself. I'm looking ahead to the challenge.''

Sounds good to me!

Flyers building team around Richards...

Is it just me, or do the last two Flyers acquisitions have something in common?

Both have a connection with future captain Mike Richards.

Now look, I understand that in the hockey world, pretty much everyone has played on a team with everyone at some point. It's just how the system works. However, the two latest pickups, Danny Syvret and Steve Eminger, have both played with Richards before. And the fact that they have played with Richards was highlighted by Homer.

Here's what Homer had to say about Eminger:

"Steve is a player we’ve always liked," said Holmgren. "He’s a former teammate of Mike Richards in Kitchener, so those two have a connection. He’s still just 25 years old. I don’t believe he’s reached his peak yet and still has a ways to go. We think he’s going to be a nice fit."

And of Syvret, he says:

"Danny is a puck-moving defenseman that sees the ice well and will improve our depth,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “He had some success playing with Jeff Carter and Mike Richards at the 2005 World Junior Championship as a member of the Team Canada."

So look out, anyone who has ever played with Richards! The Flyers are looking for you!

Hossa to Penguins: "Up yours!"

heh. Hossa has decided to see what free agency can bring him. Hopefully, teams will be lining up for him, thereby crushing the hopes and dreams of Pens fans.

In other news, last night was metal mania on VH1 Classic. Mostly, they seem to play the same crappy videos every week. Like how many times can I see Firehouse's "Don't treat me bad"? It is terrible. I mean, they even have bad metal hair. Too frizzy!

However, I stuck around for the 2 o'clock hour, and was treated to "Rock You Like a Hurricane," Poison's "Nothing But a Good Time," and "Living on a Prayer."

Now of course, the Hurricanes video is old school and not embeddable. If you want to watch it, you'll have to click here. It's worth the click, just to see some of the faces the guys make while playing to the crowd. Also, the video makes absolutely no sense at all.

The Poison video shows why metal is now dead. Heh. It's a terrible song and a terribly funny video. CC plays his guitar solo with no fewer than 5 different gaudy guitars. And several more make appearances throughout the rest of the video. Really bad, but you can't help but watch it:

Living on a Prayer....Bon Jovi is not one of my favorites, but I had to watch this because it was their first big hit. It's kinda cute, since they just sorta clown around for the camera. But man, those clothes they are wearing...ouch. Click here for a good quality video. The embed-able one was crappy quality.

That's all for now. Have a great Sunday!

Bye Bye...Flyers trade Umberger

Wow. Now I feel bad for snubbing him back in January.

Well that was certainly an interesting first round. I'm sad to say I watched the whole thing. It was a little slow going at first, since you pretty much knew who was going to be picked, but then heated up as the trades started flying.

I was a little disappointed that we only moved up to the 19th pick, and then traded away the 27th pick. I was really disappointed that we didn't take Carlson...not because I think he is any big thing, but because I really wanted to be right about who we picked.

Luca Sbisa seems like a good pick. The name rolls easily off the tongue, and he looks like he could be a good choice for us a few years down the road. Picking up Steve Eminger seems like a decent move for the immediate future while we wait for other d-men to develop. Just please don't give him number 26.

Um, I guess that's all for now...

Flyers Draft Day rumors and excitement!

this is who we should have drafted last year!

Last year's draft was like *yawn*, since we were picking second. I mean, it was pretty much one of the top three guys for sure, and although I'm sure the Reamer will be great for us someday, what has he done for me lately?

This year, I'm kinda more excited. We have the 27th pick, and I think that makes Homer kinda itchy. No way he wants to wait until number 27 to pick John Carlson. Homer loves to play the game, and I am sure he will be wheeling and dealing all day to make things exciting for me.

The best rumor I heard so far, and I am pretty sure it was from Ek, had the Flyers trading up to get the first draft pick so they could get Stamkos. Wha?!?! Now, that is a wild rumor!

Best other rumor of the day is that Carter's deal is locked up but has yet to be announced. We'll see. I don't know how we can trade him to the Leafs for their first round pick if he is locked up for 3 years.

Check back later for more fun and excitement!

Update: Umberger to Blue Jackets? Dag, for the life of me I can't remember where I saw this one either. Maybe I am just hallucinating today. Okay, nevermind, found it.
