Do I need to get a restraining order?

Jeff Carter has been harassing me ever since being nominated for Hot Stick of the Week on this very blog. It is so sad to see him make such a fool of himself...looking all around for me during warmups, then hitting the puck directly at the glass in front of me to get my attention!

Carts, I hate to break it to you, but six foot three blond haired blue eyed 22 year olds just aren't my type! I mean sure, mixing it up a little during the Carolina game was a step in the right direction, but I just don't think it would work out between us.Yes, you can still keep hitting the puck right at me during warmups, but I am still not going to flinch. Yes, you've got a hard shot, I get it, you're in the NHL. I'm sorry, but you're just too old for me!

(Yes, I have been spending way too much time over at SportSquee...Margee's delusional state is contagious!)

A rough night for Philly hockey fans...

I mean, at this point in the season, every night is a rough night, but last night was particularly rough. With both hockey teams in action, it should have been a dream come true for a fan like me. Instead, both teams were shutout and poor Fridgey sustained a potentially career ending injury.

I get nervous any time I see Fridge fight, since when he first joined us this season, he was still wearing a cage. The first few fights after the cage came off, Fridge seemed very tentative. I wouldn't say scared, but he definitely seemed aware that he had a metal plate in his cheek and that can affect the way you handle a fight.

Last night was just gruesome, seeing him go down like that. It is hard to tell from the news reports whether he is really okay or not, but hopefully he will be okay.

The game itself was lackluster and did little to hold my attention. I was tired from a long day, and that didn't help either. I have no friggin idea why Nitty was in net, but he actually did not suck as much as usual...or I should say, he didn't suck as early in the game as usual.

The Phantoms were shutout by WBS in a game that I didn't watch but looked lame according to the box score. At least Bronty is back! This sounds like something I am glad I didn't see:

Shortly afterward, the lead became 4-0 when an unfortunate bounce gave the Pens a goal. Nate Guenin was trying to clear the puck out of his crease after a Wilkes-Barre shot and inadvertently put the puck in the net. Dixon was credited with his second consecutive goal at 14:24.

Doh!

Don't panic!

There are only three weeks left in the regular season, four if you look at the AHL calendar (I do).

What the hell am I going to do when the season is over???

You're Lehtonen a lot of goals!!!

Ladies and gentleman, allow me to introduce my newest hockey boyfriend, Kari Lehtonen of the Atlanta Thrashers. We met during the second period of Thursday's Flyers game. I was sitting directly behind the net, and for some reason he felt the need to stare at me and my seat mate. I'm pretty sure he was staring at me because he couldn't believe how many margaritas I was able to drink and still be coherent. Yeah, it's a gift.

The best thing about Kari is how he lets the Flyers win every time! Also, his great last name inspired the folks behind me to yell "You're Lehtonen in a lot of goals!" Like Kari has never heard that one before!
I had to choose this picture because his face is covered by his mask. Sans mask, he looks like he is twelve years old and I don't want you to think there is something wrong with me!

Yup, there I am!

Back from New England...

So I took a little road trip this weekend in celebration of my birthday (which is today by the way but please don't make me lie about my age). I went to Providence on Friday and Bridgeport on Saturday to see my boys play on the road. I mean, really, what would I do without seeing them play for a whole week? Sadly, they lost both games. Happily, players who never score seemed to score in my honor. For example, Bronty had a goal in Friday night's game. I swear to god it was his first of the season.

*runs to check stats*

Okay so he has two goals this year and I would bet the other one was on the road as well because I surely would have remembered that. One thing that I noticed about Bronty this weekend is his leadership. When the ref makes a bad call or something unfair happens on the ice, he is there pleading his case for the team. From what I understand of this weekend's games, there was plenty of bad officiating, and Bronty was there to keep things in line. It is something I admire about him, and hope it will help his hockey career, because he is so very slow on the ice. I feel so bad when he is out there, because he is so big and slow!

Some other notes from the roadtrip:

  • I was blown away by the Projo's coverage of the p-Bruins. Articles and pictures!
  • The Dunk smells like the Big E
  • The Dunk has terrible and embarrassing frozen margaritas. The season ticket holders in my section were amazed at the foot tall frozen concoction. I was underwhelmed by the lack of alcohol in it.
  • I hate seats behind the players bench. I can't see anything going on!
  • I hate Connecticut.
  • Rhode Island accents are so cute!
  • Everyone in Providence was wearing some sort of Red Sox attire
  • You snooze you lose on Sigalet bobblehead night
  • Steve Regier from the Sound Tigers looks like Prince Charming
I guess that is all for now. I did see Heather over in section 103 snapping tons of pictures, but without any alcohol in me, I was not feeling very social. Plus, it was a long way to walk!

I think I am going to puke!

I am watching the Penguins/Flyers game today on NBC, and these announcers have the biggest friggin hard on for Cindy Crosby and the Penguins. Every five seconds, it is "cindy this" and "penguins that." Look, I understand that the Flyers suck, but there are two teams on the ice...maybe you could mention the Flyers every 7 minutes or so. Sheesh!

And yes, I know I can listen to the local broadcast online or on my radio, but the online feed is like 45 seconds behind and my brain can't deal with that. And there is too much static on my am station.

God, I am so complainy this week!

edit: okay, we're in the third period and I had to turn the volume off entirely after I heard them say "...Cindy Crosby getting roughed up..." Um, dudes, it is a hockey game. He is going to get "roughed up." Oy jeez!

Welcome Marty!

The girls over at the HLOG looooove Marty, and if tonight's game (a win!) is any indication of what I have to look forward to, so will I!

(AP Photo/Charles Krupa)

I couldn't find any pictures of his amazing saves from tonight's game, so I had to go with this one. Sorry!

I only got to see the third period of the game, but it was fanfriggintastic! Thomas was unbelievable in net for Boston. I loved when he jumped up in anger (psychotic rage?) after Upshall scored the game winner with 9.9 seconds left in OT. I love when the Flyers play well and give me a glimpse of how good they can actually be, although I know it will be short lived as I'm sure another 5 game losing streak will follow.

This is where I usually end with a sigh.

*sigh*

Road trips are the best!

Taking a page out of Heather's book, I decided to take a road trip last Saturday to see my Phantoms play the Hershey Bears in the second half of a home and home. The Friday game was a loss, but I was okay with that, since I won Bronty's jersey in the post game auction.

Now mind you, unlike Heather, I don't have hockey friends that I can call up at the last minute and say "hey, let's go to Hershey." That turned out to be fine, since I got the last available ticket for the game. Phew!

The ride to Hershey is a pleasant, relatively quick one. Maybe an hour and a half, tops. The Giant Center is the opposite of the Spectrum: new, clean, well lit, and sold out. I got there, downed my three shots of tequila, put on my Bronty jersey, and made my way inside.

I only saw a handful of Phantoms fans, which surprised me, since there are always a ton of Bears fans at the Philly games. Much to my surprise, I did see Shamrock Eager. Shamrock Eager is what I call this woman who has the jersey I covet most: the Ben Eager St Patrick's Day jersey from last year. I love the color green and Ben Eager, so when I see her at every game, it is all I can do to keep from tearing if off her! She and her family were standing by the visitor's bench, waiting for the players to come out for warmups. Emboldened by the tequila, I decided to join them.

They were of course, very nice. I called her Shamrock Eager and told her I loved her jersey. She said she gets complimented on it all the time. Her husband and I talked trade rumors. They liked my Bronty jersey and when the team took the ice, the husband said "there's your boy." They asked Riley for a puck, said hi to Muny and generally made me jealous.

Anyhow, this post is turning out to be longer and more boring than I hoped it would be. The point of the story is:
  1. road trips are awesome
  2. road trips rule, especially when your team wins
  3. nobody is gonna mess with you when you are wearing a Bronty jersey

Hot Stick of the Week Update...the jinx is on!

Yup, Jeff carter has been pointless in the last 3 games, ever since being named Hot Stick of the Week on this very blog!

Although I hesitate to alter my very strict guidelines for HSOTW, I guess from now on it will have to be based purely on good looks and squeeworthiness, instead of actual talent/scoring.

Sorry for the jinx, Jeff. I hearby take away your HSOTW crown and sash.

Now get out there and score, damn it!

Oh Bronty!

So last night was another jersey auction night. I know what you're thinking...it's not supposed to be until March. I know, but they had one last night. So this time I came up with a plan so I could get a jersey, not like last time where I blew it. So this was the plan:

1. get drunk
2. have a list with players I wanted and maximum bid
3. don't panic
4. write down what everyone went for

I think there were other parts to the plan, but since step one went so well it is hard to remember. So here was my list in order of which one I wanted most:
Scan10003_4
Wow, it's like you were there, huh? Damn this post is taking forever because I wanted to scan my list in and now firefox is acting like a bitch when I post photos so I had to switch over to ecto. Man, blogging is tough!

So anyhow, since step one worked so well, I was feeling pretty good. After the empty net goal which ended the game, I collected all the teddy bears that hit me in the head (don't ask) and marched down to Bullies. I saw the people who bought all my jerseys last time, so I went over to them to see which ones they were bidding on. I told them that they better not buy all my jerseys again. They said they would not bid against me on Bronty. They were a lot of fun and I hope to talk to them again.

The auction started with Phlex, just like last time. Then, they auctioned off a few scratches. Then, out came Bronty. Snydy will have to give you the play by play on this, since he was the bidder and I was pretty drunk. All I know is that we won the jersey for 750 and got to shake his hand!!! Um, his hand is very big. He is a big dude!
Img_1596_1

Um, we also won Jonsson's jersey. Yeah, I am not sure why we bought two. I guess I was just trying to keep up with the other people! His jersey smells pretty bad.

So that is it for now. I had to get this post up so snydy would stop harassing me. Plus, I have to get ready for tonight's game at Hershey. But which jersey shall I wear?

Cross posted to my other blog...so I lead a double life...sue me!
